A tribute to the music
dsc00053My inspiration mainly comes from music. To me, music is a very important part of life. It is a primary need, one of the things that define us as human beings. It is even better when the  music is live, to experience it in the same moment as it is created. A good concert is to me like a parenthesis in time. Not that it is not important, on the contrary, but it puts me in a place where time doesn’t exist.

I get inspiration from many types of music, but the kind that inspires me the most, is Goth metal. The reason for this is all the contrasts. It often has a wide spectre of vocals, from the very deep and masculine, sometimes aggressive, to the high, often fragile, and feminine. The music is often a combination of creative contemporary, metal and classic. It varies from calm to dramatic. It can give associations to legends and fairytales, angels and demons, it stimulates the imagination. People's reactions to this kind of music, are also very full of contrasts. They either like it very much, and become totally relaxed, or they hate it and hear nothing but noise. There is nothing in between, it seems.

In the shapes and forms I make, I am trying to use these contrasts, to capture the moods. I am playing in the twilight zone between light and darkness, good and evil, tactile and rejecting. When I first started working with these contrasts, during my time in university, I was very surprised but intrigued by my fellow student’s reactions. Some saw pretty things and angel wings, other saw threatening things like weapons and claws.

Another source of inspiration is life under water. I see many of the same moods as in the music, in the many fragile beings in the deep darkness, and in the ocean itself, wild and sometimes violent, but incredible beautiful.

I would like my jewellery to tell a story, in the same way as a piece of music can. I don’t want them to be mere decoration, but to have an identity on their own. And maybe tell something about the person who wears it?
